Volume 8
Sample Clip: Blank Coin Routine
Volume eight (More) contains two hours of more great magic from the New York
Coin Guys. David Roth performs for the FIRST time on DVD his Blank Coin Routine,
and follows with his rendition of his classic Stonehenge routine. Dr. Rubinstein
performs a version of Nest of Boxes that was the hit of his last trip to Japan,
He follows by showing a polarized plastic disc that when rubbed, becomes a real
coin. Smileys is a very commercial coin effect where a sad face drawn on a coin
changes and changes, bringing a smile to both the coin AND the spectator. The
best part, though, is yet to come, as Rubinstein reveals for the first time on
DVD his Stealth palm, sure to find a place in every coin man's repertoire! Review by Dustin Stinett (Used with Permission)- Genii Magazine: Volume 8, titled “More,” has 10 main items and six bonus items. It starts off with a nice handling of the newer (brass) versions of the old “Nest of Boxes” by Dr. Rubinstein. I particularly like the premise he brings in to explain this odd prop. In “Counterfeit Coin,” Dr. Rubinstein premiers a new concealment of his devise—the Stealth Palm—that becomes the primary move of several effects found on subsequent discs. David Roth’s classic “Stonehenge” plot is a great version of “Matrix” wherein the coins vanish from the hands—using a complete vanish—and appear under picture postcards. The effect finishes with a big, but logical, kicker. “4 Ways Out” is a wonderful routine by Mike Gallo using an Okito Box. The explanation—which was filmed live during a breakout session—is a lesson in working with a coin box. Al Schneider makes an appearance going into some theory on coin magic and then revisits his “Pop-Up Move” which he has refined since it was first published in his seminal book, Al Schneider on Coins (1975). And there is a wonderful piece of video of the late Geoff Latta from 1983 performing his remarkable “CopSilBrass” routine that—in case you didn’t know—did not use the familiar gaff set. (This is performance only, but you can find the explanation in Richard Kaufman’s CoinMagic [1981].) $35.00 +$5.00 shipping and handling.
